Hemp Seeds are Powerful

On February 12, 2023 by Lavina Kang

Hemp, whether crushed seeds, oil, milk, or tofu, is a food that generates health. It provides you with plenty of protein, omega-3, and minerals.

The consumption of hemp seeds is burdened by confusion with the prohibited varieties containing psychotropic cannabinoids. Is hemp harmful? How can I take it? Is it a source of complete vegetable protein? These are some of the questions that come to mind when you hear about hemp.

Well, nowadays hemp can be legally produced to obtain the fiber or the oil seeds that contain practically no THC, the psychotropic substance. From them, oil, milk, and “cheese” are obtained and constitute an exceptional food.

In fact, thanks to their composition, both hemp seeds and hemp oil, consumed regularly, improve health and reduce the risk of disease. They contain essential nutrients and phytochemical compounds with beneficial effects.

IS HEMP SAFE? IS IT NOT A DRUG?

Nutritional hemp has been a recognized food for centuries. Our grandparents used to eat roasted hemp seeds as if they were seeds. It is absolutely safe: its use is regulated with the limitation of containing less than 0.2% of the psychotropic cannabinoid THC. This makes it different from hemp, the same species, which contains more than 30% of.

WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF HEMP SEEDS?

It is a functional food because of its numerous polyphenols, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which benefit especially the heart and the brain. It also has an enormous amount of vitamin E (90 mg) that protects cells and tissues from aging.

HOW TO TAKE THEM?

Hemp comes in various forms:

  • Hemp seeds. They can be whole seeds (known as hemp seeds), raw or roasted, or the seeds dehulled or ground into powder. The latter, dehulled or ground, is very easy to incorporate into the diet because they are ready to eat. Their flavor is delicate, in the same range as almonds or walnuts, which facilitates their incorporation into any dish or tapa, simply sprinkled on top.
  • Hemp oil of first pressure. If obtained by cold pressing, it keeps most of its valuable omega-6 and especially omega-3 essential fatty acids intact. Its characteristic green color is a sign of its richness in chlorophyll. It is also sold as an omega-3 supplement.
  • Vegetable hemp milk. This preparation has arrived to broaden and enrich the powerful range of vegetable drinks. It is an energetic and nutritious drink and you can easily prepare it at home. Few people know, on the other hand, that heating this milk in a bain-marie for 15 minutes makes a kind of hemp tofu, very rich in protein.

IS IT NECESSARY TO USE THE PEELED SEEDS?

The hull is difficult to eat unless it is roasted, as it is not digestible. Hulled seeds have a nutty flavor and are much more palatable. Although they lose in fiber, they gain in the percentage of proteins (up to 33%), and in healthy fats (up to 44%). HOW AND WHEN CAN I INCLUDE IT IN MY DIET?

It is ideal a spoonful a day of peeled seeds in salads or sprinkled in crude in any dish of legumes, cereals, or purée, or in the muesli of breakfast. The oil, raw, gives a unique flavor to toast or pates. As milk, it is a delicious snack.
