Question & Answers - 2. Question

Question:

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am from Northern Ireland and last weekend my girlfriend get bite by tick should we have to see a GP? and can wee get a free vaccine from local GP
Best Regards,
U.

Answer:

Dear Mr. U.,

in Ireland ticks are not infected with the virus that causes tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), so you should not be afraid of TBE and you will need no vaccination.
If you and your girlfriend travel to TBE endemic regions in Europe (please see endemic areas under: www.TBE-prevention.info >> News), then you should consider a vaccination upfront.
The TBE vaccine is distributed via MASTA travel centers.

I hope this answers your question!

Yours sincerely
